Mike Strantz built Tobacco Road on land in the North Carolina Sandhills that was farmed for tobacco and later mined for sand; the course opened in 1998. It is a par 71 that measures only 6,557 yards from the back (Ripper) tees but carries a 72.5 rating and 145 slope from them. The five tee sets are named for farm implements: Ripper, Disc, Plow, Points and Cultivator.
