Pinehurst No. 2

  • Par 72
  • 5,302–7,588 yds
  • Resort
  • Donald Ross
  • Opened 1907

Donald Ross's No. 2 opened in 1907 and Ross kept refining it until his death in 1948. It is best known for its crowned, 'turtleback' greens, which were converted from sand to grass in 1935. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw's 2010-11 restoration removed the Bermuda rough and brought back hardpan sand, wiregrass and native scrub along the fairways. No. 2 hosted the 1936 PGA Championship, the 1951 Ryder Cup and the U.S. Open in 1999, 2005, 2014 and 2024, with the 2014 U.S. Women's Open played the following week. As the USGA's first 'anchor site', it has further U.S. Opens scheduled for 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047.
